Solo Bentonville bookkeeping — answered personally, never a queue.
Bookkeeper — answered personally.
Plain-English breakdown of exactly what monthly bookkeeping with Maulding Bookkeeping covers, and what it doesn't — so you can tell in one read whether this is the engagement you actually need.
Most bookkeeping sites list what they do. The harder — and more useful — question is what they don't do. Because the line between bookkeeping and tax prep, between bookkeeping and payroll, between bookkeeping and audit representation, is the line that decides whether your books get closed quarterly by one human, or whether they end up in the inboxes of three vendors who have never spoken to each other. This page lists every service that's in scope of monthly bookkeeping with Maulding Bookkeeping (transaction categorization, reconciliations, monthly financial statements, plain-English notes, catch-up & cleanup, the running 1099 contractor roster), and every service I'm explicitly out of scope for (tax filing & return preparation, payroll processing & tax deposits, audit representation & IRS certification letters, legal & contract work, and bookkeeping that needs a CPA license). The whole pitch of the page is: it's a scope-bound engagement, and the boundaries are public on purpose.
What IS included
The standing scope of the monthly engagement — transaction categorization, reconciliations, the three monthly statements, the plain-English notes, the catch-up & cleanup lane, and the running 1099 contractor roster.
What is NOT included
Out-of-scope is the half of this page most bookkeepers don’t publish. The hard line between bookkeeping and tax prep, between bookkeeping and payroll, and between bookkeeping and audit representation is the line that decides whether your books get closed by one human — or end up spread across three vendors who don’t talk to each other.
Why this matters
The point of stating what isn’tin scope isn’t to draw lines around what I do and don’t offer — it’s to keep the engagement scope-bound. When the bookkeeping stops at month-end close and the next step is the CPA’s lane, the books are the books, the CPA has a defined input, and the engagement fee doesn’t depend on what else might appear in the next quarter.
The opposite — a bookkeeper who quietly does a little tax prep, a little payroll, a little audit representation — produces a service the CPA can’t fully use, an engagement fee the owner can’t fully scope, and a tax-season conversation that’s three people meta-tagging each other’s work. The clean monthly close is more valuable than an overlapping seat on a tax-return, and that’s the whole reason this page exists.
